Happy Halloween!

Here's a little scary sketch I did for a Halloween with personal story attached to it

"What scared me as a child."

The whole idea of "Monsters under the bed" never really scared me but I did wonder where else they could be. Sometimes when I was alone in my room, in the dark and couldn't get to sleep I was convinced "things" monsters of sorts were just outside lurking in the stairway and could appear any moment to suprise me. That thought terrified me and I had to get to safety (my mum and dad's room). Which by the way was the worst placed room (opposite the stairway) meaning I've have to go past the monsters. I was so sure that they would wait for me there and if I didn't run fast enough  they would be able to grab me with these huge, creepy hands.
Even though I was terrified of the monsters I remember it was better to feel safe than sit on my own and feel worried, I just had to be fast enough! When the moment came I remembered bolting round that corner as fast as I could so they couldn't get me (obviously I was too quick for them) and feeling so relived when I got to their room. The monsters wouldn't dare go near a big, fearless adult and I went to sleep quite happily there. Not a monster in thought.

20 years later and that stairwell still makes me nervous in the dark. I'm sure they're still there :p

Happy Halloween folks and I hope you enjoyed my story :)

Illustration Friday - Temptation

Been a while since I've done Illustration Friday - too long. This is the first time I've actually ever tried to do a comic/sequenced illustration and was actually kind of fun to try something a little bit different. Hope you enjoy!

Little Ox Exhibition "Here we are"

Just taken part in an exhibition at The little Ox gallery and I'm pleased to say the opening night went very well. It was very busy indeed (so much so it was difficult to move round!) and was great to see such a variety of work from interpreting an ordnance survey map as a piece of art. I had two pieces of artwork in the show but here's some pictures I took from the night so take a look at all the great work! :)

My 2 pieces :)

Happy new year everybody and all that :) Hope 2014 is a fantastic and creative filled year for you all!
So I'm aware I've got a few posts to catch up on (oops sorry about that) so I'll start with the newest first -

A commission I've literally just finished this weekend. A painted african silhouette with zebras (aparantly she loves zebras so I hope she likes it!)

Another commission I've recently just finished - a typography based project as a valentines surprise. I do admit I like working with text and image together and I think this one turned out well with a big of digital mixed media.

And finally for christmas I worked on a project for my uncle that he wanted to give his girlfriend. It was based on a cartoon doodle he did of both of them gazing up to the stars and after discussing it this is what it turned out. Very pleased with this one as stars and animals are my favourite thing to do and I do like that gold frame too! Anyway this one was a success, I'll have to see about the other two :p
